Martin Family

My name is Elia Lopez and my parents and family have a long history with St. John’s. My parents, Everardo and Francisca Martin, joined the parish in the early 1960’s when they emigrated from Mexico.

My 4 brothers and I ( Fernando, Elia, Joe, Carlos, and Rudy) all received our sacraments from baptism to confirmation here, and I was married at St. John’s in 1997. We all went to St. John’s school with the Sisters of Mercy.

My parents celebrated their 50th anniversary at St. John’s in 2012. My mother had her funeral mass at St. John’s in 2021.

My parents were very active, from decorating altars (my Mom hand embroidered one of the altar cloths still used), contributing the frame for the Virgen de Guadalupe picture and to helping prepare the annual Virgen de Guadalupe celebrations.

Martins donated the frame and got it ready for Our Lady of Guadalupe,

My mother, a seamstress, even made the priests garments for the 75th anniversary! Several of the priests and deacon used these same vestments at our centennial Mass.

Long history and much appreciation for our spiritual growth and education. Congratulations and thanks to St. John’s!
