All Saints’ Day is a solemn holy day of the Catholic Church celebrated annually on November 1. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. In all diocese in the United States All Saints’ Day is a Holy Day of Obligation, meaning all Catholics are required to attend Mass on that day, unless they have an excellent excuse, such as serious illness.
At St. John’s we will have Masses at 8 am, 9:30 am (school Mass) and 7:30 pm.
All Souls’ Day is celebrated on Nov. 2 each year. All Soul’s Day is dedicated to all those who are departed from this world and who wait in faith of the promised Resurrection. It is not a Holy Day of Obligation.
At St. John’s we will have Masses on All Souls’ Day at 8 am and 5 pm. The 5 pm mass will fulfill your Sunday obligation.
During the month of November, we will have a table of remembrance and a book or remembrance in the church. If you would like to write about someone in the book or if you have a picture of someone who has died, you are invited to bring it in and display it on the table.
